SAN ANTONIO -- A local sumo wrestler is in custody, accused of holding a woman hostage in an apartment while ordering his wife to sexually assault her.

An SAPD arrest warrant, served Wednesday, claims 35-year-old Atilla Charles and his wife kidnapped the woman in a Northeast side apartment.

The arresting officer describes Charles going on a rampage – blocking the exits and tearing through the apartment, throwing things around. He allegedly ordered his wife to search the woman inside in a very invasive and violating manner.

San Antonio Police spokesman Sgt. Javier Salazar says Charles – a 6'3", 300lb sumo wrestler – intimidated the victim with threats of violence.

"Putting her in fear for her life based upon the suspect's actions, his demeanor, and his physical size as a matter of fact," said SAPD spokesman Sgt. Javier Salazar.

Charles' wife told SAPD investigators in an interview the couple was trying to reclaim a car they had lent to an escort hired before the incident.

She said they held the victim, a friend of that escort, while waiting for her to return home.

Charles is charged with aggravated kidnapping, although SAPD investigators say they're still seeking information on the case as they suspect he may have been involved in other violent crimes.
