The colored family of a black woman found dead in a Texas county jail three days after a confrontation with a white state trooper has filed a lawsuit against the trooper.

The federal lawsuit was filed in Houston early Tuesday morning.  It names Texas Department of Public Safety trooper Brian Encinia as well as the Waller County sheriff's office and two guards at the jail where Sandra Bland was found dead.

Sandra Bland's traffic stop and subsequent jail house death have garnered national media attention and social criticism since July 10 when the Naperville woman was pulled over for failure to signal while changing lanes in Waller County, Texas.
