So in the recent past students were spanked (Corporal Punishment) but today you can NOT even mention it to students.... So wonder we lost all control in these schools!

A Hinsdale Middle School substitute teacher was removed from the classroom and put on suspension Thursday after a student reported the teacher had discussed "SPANKING" punishments used in the past for inappropriate student behavior.

A student reported the incident to an administrator following the second of two sixth-grade classes taught by the teacher, who was not identified by officials from Hinsdale-Clarendon Hills Elementary District 181. The teacher is a former classroom teacher for the district and previously has worked as a substitute teacher in the district, said Bridget McGuiggan, District 181's communications director.

"While no direct threats were made against any student, some students perceived those statements to be threatening," McGuiggan said, noting that students were not in danger at any time.

McGuiggan would not comment on the specific content of the teacher's statements.

"Immediately following receipt of the report, the substitute teacher's remaining assignments for that day were canceled," McGuiggan added. "The human resources department is continuing to investigate the matter."

The substitute teacher in question will remain under suspension until all information is gathered, McGuiggan said.

In a letter sent to HMS parents, Principal Ruben Pena stressed students were never in danger and no direct threats were made against any student, though he acknowledged "some students perceived those statements to be threatening."

"We addressed the situation immediately, and can assure you that this type of experience with this particular substitute will never happen again," Pena wrote. "We are thankful that our students had the courage to report the statements to the office, allowing us to address it quickly."
