An off-duty Texas police officer died early Sunday morning after he hit a cow that had been on the loose on a highway.

The officer was identified as Taurean Branford, 32, who worked in the vehicular crimes division, Houston Police Department spokeswoman Jodi Silva told FOX 26.

Officer Branford was traveling on his Yamaha motorcycle on Highway 99 in Katy, Texas, when a black cow wandered into oncoming traffic near FM 529 at around 1:20 a.m.
