Kirkland police fatally shot a man Thursday in a business park after they say he had tried to break into cars and carjack another vehicle while armed with a gun.
Police received 911 calls around 9:20 a.m. reporting a man trying to break into cars in the 11800 block of 115th Avenue Northeast in the city’s Totem Lake area, King County Sheriff’s Sgt. Cindi West said in a news release.
Soon after, officers contacted the man, who was armed with a handgun and ran away from the officers, she said.
A short time later, police received additional 911 reports that the same suspect was attempting to carjack a vehicle, also while carrying a gun, and tried to get into a second vehicle, according to the release.
Officers caught up to the man in the 11500 block of Northeast 120th Street and there was a physical confrontation between the officers and the armed suspect, according to the sheriff’s office. One of the officers fired a single shot. The man died at the scene.
The man’s name was not released.
