A Waukegan 17-year-old is being held on $1 million bond on charges that he shot a North Chicago woman at 2 a.m. Saturday in Zion.

Officers were responding to a call about a loud party in the 1900 block of Joanna Avenue around 2 a.m. when dispatchers received a second 911 call about shots fired just a few blocks away at 21st Street and Joanna Avenue, according to a statement from Zion police.

The victim, a 21-year-old woman who suffered a non-life threatening gunshot wound to a lower extremity, was located near a gas station on the 2100 block of Lewis Avenue, police said. She was taken by Zion Fire Department personnel to Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan.

Marshon D. Knox, a 17-year-old who is being charged as an adult in connection with the shooting, was arrested after authorities found him with a gunshot wound to his hand on the 2000 block of Joanna Avenue, police said. According to police, he also was taken by ambulance to the hospital before investigators determined he was responsible for the shooting.
