APOPKA, Fla. —Apopka police said a woman changed her story a few times when faced with witness reports that she left her two young children in an SUV while she drank at a bar Sunday afternoon.

April R. King, 35, was arrested on suspicion of child neglect after the incident, police said.

An officer was sent to Frogger's on North Rock Springs Road to investigate just before 1 p.m.

According to police, the bar's general manager and four others reported seeing King drinking at the bar. At first, police said, King denied being inside Frogger's; however, she eventually admitted to going inside to place a to-go order.

King, who presented an Oklahoma driver's license, told police she was in the area to get a new cellphone. Police said to verify King's account, the officer spoke with the nearby AT&T store employee, who said the woman did briefly stop in the store, but didn't have any children with her.

According to a police report, King then changed her story, saying she never went inside the bar and that her children -- ages 2 and 4 -- stayed in the car when she was in the phone store.

The responding officer reported King's behavior as lethargic, saying she spoke with slurred speech and that her eyes appeared heavy.

During the officer's interaction with King, he said, the woman shut off her vehicle and then turned it back on. Because it was equipped with an interlock device, the system began to sound. According to the report, King began to blow into the machine but then quickly shut off the vehicle. Then she turned the vehicle on again.

"April spent a considerable amount of time avoiding blowing, and ... (April's 4-year-old son) could be seen blowing into the device," the report said.

According to the report, when the officer asked the boy whether he did this often, the boy gave a puzzled look and King said she'd only had the device for two days.

The children were unharmed and cleared by paramedics, according to the report.

King was arrested and booked without incident.
