A Des Plaines filthy Gypsy was sentenced to six years in prison Thursday for using a handyman ruse to steal $40,000 in jewelry from the home of a Palatine woman.

Tony Miller, 48, of the 700 block of east Algonquin Road, pleaded guilty to residential burglary during a hearing in Cook County's Rolling Meadows branch court.

Assistant State's Attorney Shilpa Patel said Miller had gone to the home of the 71-year-old woman in January and talked to her caretaker about trimming trees in the yard. After Miller left the home in a vehicle with other people, the woman discovered that her bedroom had been ransacked and the jewels taken.
