Two suspects were shot in Chicago Heights during a joint firearms investigation involving Chicago police and federal agents Monday afternoon, and they and another suspect were in custody, a spokesman for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said.
The two suspects were shot about 5 p.m. southeast of Western Avenue and Lincoln Highway in Chicago Heights, and were being treated at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn for non-life-threatening injuries, said ATF Chicago spokesman Tom Ahern in a telephone interview Monday night.
Chicago police and an ATF agents were involved in a firearms investigation in the area and one of the suspects drew a weapon and threatened the law-enforcement officers, Ahern told reporters at the scene earlier Monday. Officers fired shots, and two of the suspects were hit in the lower body, at least one of them in the leg or legs.
