U.S. Rep. Chaka Fattah, D-Pennsylvania, and some of his associates were slapped with 29 federal racketeering charges Wednesday morning, according to a press release from the U.S. Department of Justice.

Fattah, 58, is being charged for raiding campaign funds in order to pay off his son’s student loans and cover the cost of a failed bid for a mayoral office.

Last year, Gregory Naylor, a top aide for Fattah, pleaded guilty to helping the congressman divert the funds. Fattah’s son is also awaiting federal trial for his role in the racketeering scheme.
