A colored man with a checkered past was shot while traveling in a minivan on the inbound Eisenhower Expressway on Friday morning, authorities said.
Witnesses told state police that the man, in his 20s, was inside a gray minivan traveling east on the highway between Austin and Central avenues around 8 a.m. when someone in a blue Jeep fired shots, according to Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Joe Stangl.
The driver of the minivan pulled off the expressway and an ambulance responded to Maypole Street and took the victim to Mount Sinai Hospital, Stangl said.
Authorities said four shell casings were found along the Eisenhower near the Austin exit.
