A 39-year-old west suburban man who sexually assaulted two children over a period of two years is behind bars Wednesday and could face up to 60 years in prison, according to police.

Obdulio Lopez-Gomez, of the 800 block of Burr Oaks Drive in West Chicago, was charged Wednesday with four Class X felony counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, according to West Chicago police. He is being held in the DuPage County Jail awaiting a bond hearing.

On Monday, police and the DuPage Children’s Center began investigating allegations that Lopez-Gomez had been sexually assaulting two minors, police said. Acquainted with both victims and their families, he had assaulted the children for a period of two years, police said.

“The allegations are that the victims were the target of a true criminal predator,” West Chicago Police Chief Michael Uplegger said in a statement. “We worked collaboratively with the DuPage Children’s Center to take this offender off the streets.”

If convicted, Lopez-Gomez faces between six and 60 years in prison on each count, police said.
